September 11, 2011 marks the tenth anniversary of one of the darkest days in the fire service and our country’s history. No matter where you are in your career today, we all remember exactly where we were, and what we were doing, learning of the attack on our country. When the day was over, nearly 3000 Americans were killed, among them 343 of our FDNY brothers.
Being the tenth anniversary there are many events planned. Each of the services offers something a little different yet honors our brothers and sisters, our military for their sacrifice protecting our freedom and the civilians who were innocent victims. Flags waving, axes polished, the sound of boot steps, the sound of a bell tapping out the final alarm, the unforgettable sound of bagpipes, and the crack of the rifles followed by the pinging of shells as they hit the ground, are a reflection Honor, Courage and Valor, with Respect and Compassion.
We invite you to save the date of September 11, 2011 to make plans to honor the victims of September 11 by taking part in as many of these events as possible.
