New Hampshire State Firemen’s Association Invites Fire Departments to “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” April 27 – May 4

Bedford, NH — The New Hampshire State Firemen’s Association (NHSFA) is honored to participate in the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters from April 27 through May 4, 2025, and invites all New Hampshire fire departments and residents to join in lighting buildings, landmarks, and homes in red to honor our fallen heroes.

This year, we solemnly recognize and pay tribute to three New Hampshire firefighters who will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland:

Lieutenant Charles A. “Chuck” Gallant, Rye Fire Department

Captain Jeffrey M. Whitcomb, Littleton Fire Department

Lieutenant Jessica L. Wyman, Nashua Fire Rescue

Each of these brave individuals served with unwavering dedication, courage, and heart, making a lasting impact on the communities they loved and protected.

“Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” began as a way to mark the 25th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Today, it has grown into a nationwide tribute, uniting fire departments, families, and communities in honoring the ultimate sacrifice made by firefighters across the country.

In memory of our fallen brothers and sisters, we ask every New Hampshire fire department to participate in this meaningful event. Let us make New Hampshire glow red to show our respect and gratitude for their lives of service.

About the Heroes:

Lieutenant Charles A. Gallant

Chuck Gallant served over two decades with the Rye Fire Department and previously volunteered with Hampton Falls. A dedicated AEMT, lieutenant, and community leader, Chuck received the Paul W. Sypek Medal of Valor for his heroism during a 2012 fire aboard the USS Miami. He was beloved for his mentorship, warm spirit, and deep devotion to his family and town.

Captain Jeffrey M. Whitcomb

A U.S. Navy veteran, Jeff dedicated his life to the fire service and education. He served the Littleton Fire Department from 1990 until his retirement in 2015 and was a Senior Staff Instructor with NH Fire Standards and Training. Jeff was a respected mentor, outdoorsman, and cherished family man, remembered for his generosity and humor.

Lieutenant Jessica L. Wyman

The first female lieutenant in Nashua Fire Rescue history, Jess served 26 years in the fire service, including work with Merrimack FD and FEMA's MA Task Force 1. A powerhouse both in and out of uniform, Jess founded Camp Fully Involved, inspiring the next generation of female firefighters. Jess was awarded the Sypek Award. Her passion, leadership, and strength live on in all she taught and touched.
